CAF WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS- The super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Zambia, two goals to one.
After seeing their reputation shattered in recent times- dropping down to a moral dampening 64th place in the latest fifa rankings, the super Eagles of Nigeria have grown new feathers, ready to soar again.
When the world cup draws were made, Nigeria was drawn in what was perceived as the group of death, alongside heavyweights as Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia – all formers nations cup winners. But if the display of resilience shown against Zambia is anything to go by, Nigerians can rest their heads, knowing things are in control.
Prior to the matchup, the Zambians were talking tough with Zanaco Fc midfielder Roderick Kabwe saying, “team spirit is high and we will be ready for the Nigerian challenge”
” The morale is high and the players are all very focused on the game,” he assured.
“We will be very ready for Nigeria next week, ” he concluded.
But the super Eagles silenced the loud mouthed Zambians, even in their own country, despite their bad pitch conditions. New head coach Gernot Rohr has assembled a young squad-the likes of Ihenacho and Iwobi at the helm, boys hungry for glory. This is a reason for optimism. Our best football is brooding again.
With Cameroon and Algeria having played out a one all draw later in the day, Nigeria take command of group B with 3 points. That is their rightful position.
With a seemingly young energized team, having flushed out all the “bad blood” from the squad, the super Eagles of Nigeria are ready to fly again. New feathers are growing, and once the Eagle takes off, there’s no looking back.
SOAR ON NAIJA.
